Inter by Google Fonts is a popular free typeface. It’s nice, it’s variable, however it is built in a way that does not easily allow outlined styles online or in design software like Adobe Illustrator. I assume this is due to it being primarily a variable typeface, however the problem also occurs when using the static fonts. Another issue you might encounter is unwanted lines even showing up in filled styles which happens to me in videos rendered in CapCut. Since outlined styles became very popular it can be a headache if you are a designer who has to work with a CI using Inter. I first encountered the outline issues with using Inter back in 2019 and assumed it would get fixed one day but that never happened. Because I recently had to work with Inter again, I decided to finally do something about it. 

I’ve never worked in type design at all. But I was desperate, so I went and downloaded Fontforge which is a free type editing tool and it got the job done. I went through every glyph and deleted any overlap. I got a bunch of mysterious errors when exporting the font again but believe they weren’t caused by anything I did and just clicked them away. If you catch any issues or know a better approach, let me know. 

Just install it like any other font. I named it Inter-bold_OutlineReady so it turns up next to your regular Inter in list views but you can name it however you want.

Yes. Inter has cyrillic, greek and latin letters and lots of variants. If Inter supported your language before, it should still work now. Here you can find an overview of supported languages.

It’s what I needed most urgently. Since I’m doing all the glyphs I couldn’t do all weights at once. I will probably convert at least Thin, Regular and Extra-Black as well as well as some italic fonts. If you are on a deadline, just editing the main letters is done very quickly, promise. 

I am no lawyer but from my understanding of the license Inter comes with (Open Font License), yes and yes. Also I am making no money from this.
